Downtown Birmingham’s Brown-Marx Tower has a new owner

In one of the most senseless acts of destruction in Birmingham, the massive 1-1/2 story cornice was removed in the late 1970′s because an idiot building inspector saw nails on the sidewalk and made the assumption that they had come from the cornice. He told the owners to either fix it or take it down. Well it turned out someone had accidentally dropped the nails on the sidewalk and the cornice was in perfect condition. But they took it down anyway. It was a phenomenal architectural feature and a sad loss for the city. The building is so bland without its crown.
