Momentum leadership conference features former HP chief, U.S. surgeon general

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Former Hewlett-Packard Co. Chairman and CEO Carly Fiorina and U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin are the keynote speakers for a women’s leadership conference to be held this week in Birmingham.

The Momentum Conference: Building Women Leaders in Alabama is being held at the Sheraton Birmingham tonight and Thursday.

Now approaching its 10th year, the Momentum leadership program aims to help build leadership among women across the state, with curriculum that includes financial-statement analysis, conflict resolution, negotiation skills, coalition building and other topics. Its conference also provides networking opportunities for women in wide variety of professions.

A reception and awards ceremony will be held tonight, with the one-day conference scheduled Thursday. Topics include women’s wellness, work-life balance, tips for entrepreneurs and climbing the corporate ladder.

Panelists for the sessions include representatives from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, St. Vincent’s Health System, Alabama Power Foundation, along with corporations and small businesses.

Honorary Co-Chairs are Benjamin, former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb, Alabama Lieutenant Gov. Kay Ivey and Southern Company Services President and CEO Susan Story.
