BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — The Shopping Center Group has announced recent deals involving more than 25,000 square feet of new fast-casual restaurant space in Alabama and Mississippi.
“Well-capitalized and successful restaurant concepts continue to be active while other categories have struggled during the recession,” Greg Hess, partner in the Birmingham office of The Shopping Center Group, said in a prepared statement. “Although due to the continued lack of new development, demand for premium sites is outpacing supply, we are still able to secure locations that offer desirable demographics and great income
opportunities for our clients.”
The transactions include:
Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches, which signed a five-year, 1,400-square-foot lease for its second Birmingham location at 29 Seven, a mixed-use development in Lakeview. It is expected to open in December. Kathy Dennis represented Jimmy John’s.
Smashburger, which opened its first Alabama location
last month at the Shoppes of Madison in Madison. Hess and Jonathan Lindsey represented Smashburger in its 10-year, 2,100-square-foot lease.
Shane’s Rib Shack, which opened last month at The Village on Whitesburg in Huntsville. Another Shane’s Rib Shack is under construction in Cullman and expected to open this fall. Hess represented the company in both transactions.
Chick-fil-A opened two restaurants in Mississippi, one on the Mississippi State University campus in Starkville and another in Brandon. Hess represented Chick-fil-A.
Hess also represented Starbucks in an 1,800-square-foot lease at Cherokee Avenue and Olive Street in Cullman.
Pizza Hut Express leased 1,200 square feet at Springville Village in Springville, and it is expected to open in December. Ray Jones represented Pizza Hut Express, and Dennis represented the landlord.
